Kamala Khan is the first Muslim American superhero to headline a Marvel Studios production and the first MCU hero confirmed to be a mutant. Her Disney+ series (2022) is the franchise's most exuberant origin story: a sixteen-year-old fangirl from Jersey City who loves the Avengers, discovers she has crystalline energy powers tied to a family heirloom, and spends six episodes navigating Pakistani-American identity, intergenerational trauma, and partition-era history alongside the standard superhero apprenticeship arc.

Ms. Marvel works best understood in context with The Marvels (2023), where Kamala is paired with Carol Danvers — her idol — and Monica Rambeau in a story that forces all three heroes to operate in each other's registers. The film's final scene positions Kamala as a connector between street-level heroism and the incoming Young Avengers generation. She is also, as confirmed in the Ms. Marvel finale, the MCU's first explicitly identified mutant — a status that connects her to the incoming X-Men integration in ways the franchise has not yet fully explored.
