Marvel Zombies
"Who will save us from our heroes?"
After the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a desperate group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world.
Alternate universe zombie apocalypse. Not Sacred Timeline. No Doomsday connection.
Why It Matters in the MCU
The animated series adapts the What If...? universe's zombie apocalypse storyline into an expanded narrative following surviving heroes — led primarily by the Vision's children and Shang-Chi — through a world overrun by infected Avengers. The horror-animation format allows the series to go further with the premise than the What If...? episode could, exploring what it means for children to fight against corrupted versions of the adults who were supposed to protect them. It serves as an entry point for younger MCU characters to anchor their own standalone narrative outside the main timeline.
Where It Fits in the MCU
Marvel Zombies sits at position 117 of 133 in the MCU's story-chronological order, placing it within the Phase 4 — Multiverse Opens (2024–2025) era. It is rated Optional — can be skipped without losing the main thread. Watching in story-chronological order provides the most coherent character development experience — individual arcs build naturally toward the franchise's major crossover events, with each film's post-credits scenes carrying forward into what follows.
