Struggling to find his place in the world while juggling school and family, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales is unexpectedly bitten by a radioactive spider and develops unfathomable powers just like the one and only Spider-Man. While wrestling with the implications of his new abilities, Miles discovers a super collider created by the madman Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk, causing others from across the Spider-Verse to be inadvertently transported to his dimension.

Why It Matters in the MCU

The film that changed what mainstream animation was permitted to look like. Its rejection of smoothed CG in favour of stepped framerates, visible halftone and on-panel text was a genuine technical risk, and its influence on the decade of animated features that followed is difficult to overstate. Beneath the formal invention is a straightforward and very well-told story: Miles Morales earning a mantle rather than inheriting it, with Peter B. Parker as a failure rather than a mentor. It remains the strongest argument that the multiverse is a character device before it is a plot one.
