Why It Matters in the MCU
Nicolas Cage returns to a character he first voiced in Into the Spider-Verse, this time in live action, and the casting is the point: Cage playing 1930s pulp straight is exactly the register the material needs. Ben Reilly is a private investigator in a Depression-era New York rendered as genuine noir rather than superhero pastiche, and the decision to release it in both black-and-white and colour treats the aesthetic as substance rather than gimmick. It is the most stylistically committed thing Sony has made with these characters outside the animated films.

It is rated Optional — can be skipped without losing the main thread.
