Venom
"The world has enough Superheroes."
Investigative journalist Eddie Brock attempts a comeback following a scandal, but accidentally becomes the host of Venom, a violent, super powerful alien symbiote. Soon, he must rely on his newfound powers to protect the world from a shadowy organization looking for a symbiote of their own.
Eddie Brock bonds with the Venom symbiote. Foundation for Let There Be Carnage. Sony SSU — not MCU canon.
Why It Matters in the MCU
Sony's Venom solo film operates outside the MCU proper but proved commercially viable on Spider-Man adjacency alone. Tom Hardy's committed dual act — voicing both Eddie Brock and the symbiote, giving the film an internal dialogue dynamic — is far more entertaining than the villain plot surrounding it. The film's tonal incoherence turned out to be its strongest argument rather than its weakness: audiences responded to the anarchic energy that a cleaner film would have edited out.
Where It Fits in the MCU
Venom sits at position 74 of 133 in the MCU's story-chronological order, placing it within the Phase 3C — Ragnarok & The Infinity War (2018) era. It is rated Optional — can be skipped without losing the main thread. Watching in story-chronological order provides the most coherent character development experience — individual arcs build naturally toward the franchise's major crossover events, with each film's post-credits scenes carrying forward into what follows.
