Why It Matters in the MCU
Guillermo del Toro's sequel expands the vampire mythology by introducing the Reapers — a predator species that hunts vampires — and the result is a film with better creature design and more inventive action choreography than its predecessor. Del Toro's gothic visual sensibility gives the underground sequences a texture that anticipates his later work, and the Bloodpack ensemble allows for the kind of team-with-competing-loyalties dynamic that action films use less often than they should. It is the rare superhero sequel that genuinely improves the action while deepening the world.
