The Punisher (Season 2)
Series that captures the work of police, probation, prison, prosecution and parole all coping with difficult cases - managing risk to the public and themselves, with limited resources.
Billy Russo (Jigsaw) escapes and is finally killed by Frank. Standalone — not in Doomsday.
Why It Matters in the MCU
The second season of The Punisher introduces John Pilgrim as an antagonist whose violence is religiously motivated — a counterpoint to Castle's grief-driven brutality that is the series' most conceptually ambitious character contrast. Amy Bendix adds an unexpected emotional register to the Frank Castle dynamic, functioning as a surrogate daughter whose presence exposes the limits of Castle's willingness to extend his protection beyond his specific grievance. The season's conclusion sets up a third season that never materialised.
Where It Fits in the MCU
The Punisher (Season 2) sits at position 72 of 133 in the MCU's story-chronological order, placing it within the Phase 3C — Ragnarok & The Infinity War (2018) era. It is rated Optional — can be skipped without losing the main thread. Watching in story-chronological order provides the most coherent character development experience — individual arcs build naturally toward the franchise's major crossover events, with each film's post-credits scenes carrying forward into what follows.
