Phase 3A marks the MCU's expansion into television-grade storytelling. The Netflix series — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist — brought street-level heroes to Hell's Kitchen with a tonal seriousness and episode-count that the films couldn't accommodate. Daredevil Season 1 (2015) in particular is the franchise's most critically successful single-season run, treating its superhero premise with the same rigour applied to prestige drama.
Alongside the Netflix expansion, Phase 3A includes Ant-Man (2015) and Captain America: Civil War (2016) — the latter functioning as a de facto Avengers film that fractures the team in ways that persist through Infinity War. Civil War introduces both Black Panther and Spider-Man to the MCU, making it one of the most consequential single films in the franchise's history. The Netflix series and theatrical films are running in parallel during this period, and while they're not narratively connected, they collectively represent the MCU at its most creatively diverse.
Phase 3A contains 10 MCU titles: 2 movies, 6 TV series, and 2 shorts/specials. Total runtime is approximately 67.8 hours.
1 titles in Phase 3A are essential for following the main Avengers storyline: Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The story order listed above is recommended — it follows the in-universe timeline rather than release dates. Begin with Daredevil (Season 1).
