Phase 3B processes the fallout of Civil War while expanding the MCU's cosmic and magical registers. Doctor Strange (2016) introduces the Mystic Arts, the Eye of Agamotto, and a new narrative dimension — the multiverse — that the franchise wouldn't fully exploit for another five years. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming continue established character arcs while Black Panther (2018) delivers the franchise's most fully realised standalone world.

Black Panther is Phase 3B's defining achievement: a film with the political ambition to make Wakanda's isolationism the villain's argument as much as his violence, and the craft to cast an antagonist (Killmonger) whose grievances are structurally legitimate. Thor: Ragnarok dismantles the Asgard mythology set up in Phase 1 with anarchic comedy and unexpected emotional honesty. By the end of Phase 3B, every major Avenger has been tested, every major location established, and every Infinity Stone positioned. Avengers: Infinity War is the logical conclusion of everything Phase 3B built.
