Phil Coulson
The agent who put the Avengers Initiative in front of Tony Stark and Thor before anyone had heard of it, and whose death aboard the Helicarrier is what made the team a team. Revived in secret, he went on to lead S.H.I.E.L.D. through seven seasons of its own.
