Why It Matters in the MCU
James Gunn's final MCU film is the best-reviewed chapter of the trilogy and functions as a genuine character study disguised as a space opera. Rocket Raccoon's backstory — held back across two prior films — finally unfolds here, and it is the emotional core that makes the action sequences feel consequential rather than decorative. The film takes its villain's ideology seriously enough that the threat feels real, and it closes out the team's arc in a way that respects every beat the previous films established. Few franchise conclusions have delivered this level of earned finality.
